A Reid model steps out…

Posted in Mark's Blog by admin on the August 24th, 2006

In the past couple of years both Aly and myself have been involved with casting people who are not attached to any of the model agencies in Perth to give them the chance to hit the catwalk and they have been put under the Reid Model banner.

This year one of our ‘finds’ - who also happened to be someone who had been working here at the AIDS Council was snapped up by the wonderful Chadwick models just after StyleAID and is now on the road to model stardom!

If you were at the event you might remember him as the boy in the cut away bathers in the Lushlife section of the parade…anyway he is shooting his first TVC today and is a popular boy around town…

I always new he was destined for greatness, dear reader of the blog, and think he has a great future ahead of him!

He first came to us at WAAC as a placement student in the middle of last year to work on the Keep It Safe Summer campaign, targetting leavers celebrations and he then moved into paid employment here at the Council.

It was a pure stroke of luch that he turned up here at the Council on casting day and the girls all thought that he had come into audition.  I convinced him to walk for us and Aly cast him straight away…after some further cajoling from me he agreed and made a real splash on the catwalk on the night.

With some great shots taken post the event by star photographer Gary Sandford he was on his way into the wonderful world of Chadwick Models under the watchful eye of the beautiful Sanela…

So who knows where this will lead, but I will keep you informed as I hear more…

Well done to Toby, we always new he was a star!

Phew, made it…

Posted in Designers by admin on the August 22nd, 2006

Phew, made it! a fantastic night had by all I’m sure. The Styleaid team really out did themselves yet again (have no idea how as each one is always so amazing).

When I walked in I was gobsmacked to how beautiful and dramatic it all looked, the stage was all black with these wicked leafless trees in white lining the back (heard was another Aly May creation painted by the extraordinaire herself!).

All the lights were dimmed so the long white lily table centrepieces just stood out and looked magnificent.

Alcohol aplenty the show started with a performance by Hayden Tee the host who I was asked to dress. As it was a last minute arrangement, I didn’t realise he was singing whilst high up in a cherry picker!! but thank goodness Hayden looked fabulous and it all seemed to fit him perfectly! He was a fantastic singer.

After this whilst the hosts were talking, was a quick trip backstage to make sure the models were dressed right, as we had these boxing wraps that the dressers would have had no idea how to put on.

A quick check and a few wraps later they were all good to go. It all looked so cool seeing ALL the models lined up in their outfits for each designer, waiting to go on stage. There were lots of different style and stories happening but couldn’t gaze for long as had to get back to watch it all, wouldn’t want to miss it!

And it all came out, looking marvellous. I love it, just seeing all the different styles and personalities of each designer come out visually. Each one so different, the music, the presentation. I liked the way Aly had each of the emerging designer’s models come out kind of all at once in a line, it was really cool. I thought the designers were all so talented and really professional.
I also loved Material Boys giant caps, so cool, I want one!! The parade was kind of like watching Fashion TV on Foxtel where you just get an entourage of fashion coming at you, love it. Could watch it 24hours. When my stuff came out it was really cool as I wasn’t so nervous this time round so could actually enjoy it! plus it was nice to be able to actually watch it from the audience because usually I am always backstage dressing.

StyleAID is really nice like that, as we don’t have to dress as they get dressers for you so we can actually enjoy ourselves too and see it all.
Then when I thought it was all over, after a break the WA Ballet came on and it was sooo cool, I wish I could be a dancer like that! was so vibrant and energetic, funky. And then at 10.30pm when you really thought the entertainment was all over, they had the Burlesque dancers come on and they were REALLY cool too! It was just fabulous to have entertainment all through the night (and I think it saved me from getting way too drunk).
There were so many people there, I think the whole of Perth was there, kept bumping into people you knew. Got to meet Hayden too which was nice, he was very amusing, great fun. So it was so sad when it was time to go BUT there was the StyleAID bag to collect and that’s always fun seeing what’s in there (I especially love the MAC stuff).

Oh and got to check out the silent bidding on all our Finale dresses donated by all the designers as we walked out. I think this was a great idea as people got to see up close the frocks and could put a bid on there and then (plus a few drinks always helps!) I was pleased to see that my frock was up to about $250 but later heard it ended up around $300 which I was really pleased for as it all goes to raising money for the AIDS Council.
I just can’t wait til next year’s StyleAID now…I have no idea how they will top this one, it was fantastic! but somehow they always do. I’ve heard the StyleAID crew have already started planning for next year and have picked out their theme!!! I think it’s gonna be a big one, as I think it’s an anniversary year so don’t miss out!! xxx

Here it is Wednesday morning and the lovely Aly May has forwarded on some pictures from the event to me that were sent to her from Georgia…so here I am posting them for you to have a look at as well.

Hopefully there will be more like this coming in the next few days so keep checking back and then you will be able to see some other great pictures of our night of nights!

As for me, the week has now settled down and I am yet to hit that post StyleAID slump that usually happens but that might be because we are still in the midst of renovations here in the office, so it is filled with painters, furniture movers and carpet layers and will be like this for a few more days…so no chance to sit and dwell just yet…

Perhaps this year there will not be that slump that usually hits around this time…touch wood…and I can just focus on my other work and beginning on our fabulous event for next year! Who knows?

Enjoy the pics…

A week or so later…

Me and Steph

It seems like such a long time ago already but here we are just over a week later and StyleAID is stilling going strong in peoples minds and the feedback so far has been sensational.

On this post you will find a pic of me with the very glamorous and beautiful Steph Patniotis who worked with me on the event in the capacity of prize getter, auction sorter and advertising seller for the magazine as well as being a great support in the lead up to the event.

More pics will follow in the next day or so as I get sent more from people who were there on the night and I want you all to be able to share and see pictures from this amazing night as we move towards working on the 2007 event!

Aly as always has a theme in mind - she came up with this a few weeks ago and it is as usual brilliant…

There will also be some final blogs from our designers in the next few days and one exciting outcome for Preacher is that Hayden Tee one of the hosts for the night who was dressed by Pat from Preacher is doing a shoot for InStyle magazine and has asked Pat to dress him…this will be fantastic and great profile raising for Preacher on a national level…so well deserved…if you are looking for some great clothing…especially menswear in my estimation…please drop by and see Preacher at 555 Beaufort Street Mt Lawley…some of the best menswear in Perth today…

Enough til next couple of days dear reader…

Well here we are nearly 1 week later…I can’t believe that we are nearly at 1 week past the event.

In the past 6 days we have had major renovations happening back here at the AIDS Council which means dear reader that I have not been as vigilent with my blog postings as I would have like to be.

You will find here a range of pics from backstage that were taken by Dragana - one of our finale photographers and a great supporter of StyleAID for your enjoyment.

There will be more to come in the days to follow so check back as I update them as I recieve more.

I will also keep you posted on how much money we made and other bits of information that you might be interested in.

The blog will become a feature of the StyleAID site as it seems there are many of you enjoying the words written by those of us contributing.

I would love to hear from you as well if you have enjoyed the blog.  Please feel free to post a comment on here and I will make sure it gets included.

Thanks again for reading and stay tuned!

The After Blog…

Posted in Uncategorized, Aly's Blog by admin on the August 9th, 2006

Well it’s all over and it was a fantastic success!!! Must admit it’s all a bit of a blur, little scenarios pop into my head every now and again, make me smile and, yes I do remember climbing into a taxi to go home.
The day of preparation couldn’t have run any better, everything went to plan and by 6 pm the backstage area was as neat as a pin. When you are expecting over 200 people to invade a space it has to be this way or otherwise, the whole show is in danger of going haywire. The dreaded project that included white paint was of course the trees which, looked fantastic
The preparation team I had were amazing, everywhere you looked there were groups of busy people. We had the ironing and steaming crew, the shoe unpackers, the clothes un-wrappers and hangers in the morning. Then the afternoon shift kicked in with models to ferry back and forth to their different stations.

There was the hair and makeup room, the shoe fitting area, Zomp would have been proud of us!  Tables were laid out for accessories and props and, a special table erected as a temp office space to house the mountain of paperwork. Most of all I would like to say thankyou to everyone so here goes………
SPECIAL THANKS TO THE ENTIRE BACKSTAGE CREW FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION TO PREPARING THE BACKSTAGE AREA.  I COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!!!
