EMERGING TALENT // STORY BY TANG
Previously focusing on contrasting fabrics, rigid trims and design lines with a sense of conservative individualism, designs by Story by Tang portrayed an attitude no less than Jane. Since being established for over 2 years, these contrasts have evolved from rigid to soft and conservative to daring. Tang’s signature pieces include boned corset tutus, elegant flowing tops with buckled trims and cute-sex dresses for women mimicking a shy-rebellious attitude.
Educated in photography and fashion-textiles, Christine Tang’s label Story by Tang eventuated from what was unwanted but available experience and very little employment. Many job interviews later, Story by Tang became a self-employment solution to a post graduation problem.
Since 2002, not only has Tang created a label which has attracted buyers Australia wide, she has also teamed up with 6 other young designers to open a purely West Australian designer boutique, named Merge Clothing. In 2003, Tang held an independent fashion show at Hudson Gallery, which secured her a name as one of Western Australia’s Next Generation designers. Recently under representation by POP – Philips and O’Connor Productions, Story by Tang is well becoming recognised not only among eager shoppers but also by influential peers in the fashion industry.
